Birth statistics in Ukraine.
From 1991 to 2016 the population of Ukraine reduced by 9 million people. For this period the highest index was 1993, when the population constituted over 52 million people. As of 2016 the population of Ukraine constituted 42.5 million people, of which female population – 23 million, and male population – 19.5 million people. Number of children reduced as compared to the beginning of 90s of the 20th century.

It’s interesting that as compared to 1991 Ukrainians started to get children later. In the 90s of the 20th century women predominantly bore at the age from 19 to 23 years old. Those, who preferred to get a child at the age from 24 to 30, were twice as little. In 2016 the younger age has no advantages any more. Moreover, the number of women, who want to bear after 30, practically doubled. It is explained by the fact that present-day Ukrainians prefer to secure material resources first and only then get a child.
In order to increase the birthrate in Ukraine the government launched a program for future parents support. According to this program parents, which have a child, may refer to a social protection department at the place of registration of one of the parents and receive welfare assistance. For example, for parents, which have a child born in 2018 the size of assistance constituted 41,280 UAH, which equal to 1.5 thou. US dollars according to the exchange rate of this year. However, the sum is not paid in a lump, but during 3 years.
